Productive day for Manipur as L Ronaldo, Rejiya, Ranju a Bindiyarani claim gold medals

Manipur on Saturday enjoyed a productive day, scooping eight medals including four gold at the 36th National Games 2022 in Gujarat.
It was double delight for the state in cycling as both Laitonjam Ronaldo Singh and Khoirom Rejiya Devi pedalled their way to gold medals.
Ronaldo clocked 1:2.343 in the men's 1km time trial event to earn his yellow metal while Rejiya claimed her gold medal in the women's 3km individual pursuit event.
On the other hand, Mayanglambam Sonali Chanu bagged the silver medal in the women's 500m time trial event as Tongbram Monorama Devi settled for the bronze medal in the 10km scratch race.
Chingangbam Ranju Singh created history by becoming the first person to win the gold medal in, the skateboard street (roller sports) competition which has been introduced for the first time in the National Games.
In weightlifting, Bindiyarani Sorokhaibam gave Manipur's third gold medal after a stellar performance in the women's 59kg category on Saturday.
Bindiyarani lifted a total of 194kg (snatch 83kg, clean & jerk 111) to earn the top podium honours.
Earlier on Friday, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (49kg) and Phamdom Ranibala (55kg) secured gold medals for Manipur.
Mirabai topped the 49kg category with a total lift of 191kg while Ranibala dished out her golden performance with a total lift of 188kg.The fencing competition also yielded two medals for the state with Anita Chanu securing a silver medal (women's individual foil event) and N Mina taking a bronze (foil).
Earlier on Friday, Laishram Abi Devi earned the bronze medal in the women's individual sabre event while Abi, Babysana Thokchom, T Diana and Hijam Anapriya Chanu teamed up to clinch the bronze in the women's team sabre contest.
