Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N Biren Singh took the lead in wishing the people of the State on the occasion of 'National Cleanliness Day' which is observed on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2 .
The Governor in a message released today said Mahatma Gandhi's message of peaceful co-existence has become increasingly relevant in the present situation of Manipur, which is a representative of a miniature India, to ensure peace and harmony in society.
Maintaining that Mahatma Gandhi was a real 'Karmayogi', an apostle of truth and non-violence, a symbol of indomitable power of the soul that stood for the cause of the down-trodden and the oppressed not only in India but also in other parts of the world, the Governor added that Mahatma Gandhi was the greatest theorist and practitioner of truth, non-violence and tolerance.
He also appealed everyone to clean 'our surroun- dings' and to resolve to maintain the state of cleanliness as a regular feature.
Wishing the people of the State on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Chief Minister N Biren Singh in his message to the people said the United Nations has also declared October 2 as 'International Non-Violence Day' to disseminate the message of non-violence to the world.
The Chief Minister added "Gandhi Jayanti reminds us to rededicate ourselves towards promoting amity, peace and tolerance" .
In another message, the Chief Minister also extended wishes on the occasion of Durga Puja which is celebrated to remind every one of the power of ethical and moral behaviour and victory of righteousness over evil.
Textiles, Commerce and Industry and Co-operation Minister Nemcha Kipgen also extended wishes on the Gandhi Jayanti.
