MUSU reaches understanding with AMWJU, EGM

Regarding the attempt made by Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) president Sanasam Steven to prevent media persons from covering the students' protest inside MU campus on Friday, an understanding has been reached between MUSU representatives and functionaries of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM).
The understanding was reached during a joint meeting held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Saturday wherein MUSU representatives led by president Sanasam Steven held talk with functionaries of AMWJU and EGM, a statement released by AMWJU general secretary Khwairakpam Naoba said, adding that AMWJU and EGM had condemned Sanasam Steven's attempt to prevent media coverage of the September 30 incident at MU.
During the talk, the MUSU president clarified to AMWJU and EGM functionaries that the protest inside MU administration block on Friday was not related with MUSU and accordingly appealed to media persons present at the protest site not to give coverage.
The MUSU representatives also told AMWJU and EGM functionaries that there was no attempt to interfere in the duties of media persons and MUSU president himself sought pardon if there was any mistake on their part.
AMWJU and EGM functionaries welcomed MUSU's clarification and accordingly reached an understanding.
Both the sides also agreed to shoulder their respective responsibilities in future too including coverage of MUSU related events by media persons as usual, the statement added.
