HSL celebrates anniversary, fetes meritorious students

The Hunphun Shanao Long (HSL), apex women's organisation of Hunphun village, on Friday celebrated its 34th anniversary along with inauguration of its newly-constructed conference hall at Awontang in Ukhrul town, here.
Rajya Sabha MP and titular king Leisemba Sanajaoba attended the celebration as chief guest and hoisted the HSL anniversary flag in the presence of Hunphun headman HA Sarimaya, HSL president Agnes Shaiza, Ukhrul SP Ningshem Vashum, TSL president Thingreiphy and others.
The MP also inaugurated the new conference hall and inspected it along with other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, MP Sanajaoba congratulated HSL on attaining the 34th year milestone and for sustaining their social responsibilities thus far.
Women have multi-tasking capabilities and play a big role in maintenance of peace and tranquillity in the society apart from being homemaker, he said and acknowledged service of women to the society.
Womenfolk in the hills and the valley of the state have a long history of acting as a guardian of the society, be it confronting against human rights violation by security forces, or fighting against drugs or other social ills, he added.
On a nostalgic note, the MP related his frequent visits and long stays in Ukhrul town during his youthful days and added that the township and the Tangkhul people have always remained close to his heart.
As a part of the celebration, HSL also felicitated seven girl students from Hunphun village who scored high marks in the recently declared results of Class X and Class XII 2022 examinations.
