Governor, CM, others greet on Gandhi Jayanti, Durga Puja

Governor La Ganesan, chief minister N Biren, MAHUD minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Textile, Commerce and Industries minister Nemcha Kipgen have extended their greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Durga Puja and Gandhi Jayanti.
In his message, Governor Ganesan said that Mahatma Gandhi's message for peaceful co-existence has become increasingly relevant in the present situation of Manipur which is representative of a miniature India, to ensure peace and harmony in society.
"Mahatma Gandhi was a real "Karmayogi", an apostle of truth and non-violence, a symbol of indomitable power of the soul that stood for the cause of the down-trodden and oppressed not only in India but also in other parts of the world", the Governor said, while adding that Mahatma Gandhi was the greatest theorist and practitioner of truth, non-violence and tolerance.
Sharing his thoughts, CM Biren said that Gandhi Jayanti is the day on which the nation also observes the National Cleanliness Day every year.
The United Nations also declared October 2nd as International Non-Violence Day to disseminate the message of non-violence to the world, he said, adding that Gandhi Jayanti reminds us to rededicate ourselves towards promoting amity, peace and tolerance.
Gandhiji's philosophy and thoughts are even more relevant in today's world, the CM stated in his message.
Regarding Durga Puja, Biren said Durga Puja signifies the triumph of righteousness over evil.
The festival reminds us of the power of ethical and moral behaviour and the value system which are the bedrock of our society.
He wished the people of Manipur be blessed with greater peace and prosperity.
On the other hand, ministers Khemchand and Nemcha Kipgen said that Gandhi Jayanti is an event celebrated in India to mark the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
It is celebrated annually on 2 October, and is one of the three national holidays of India.
The UN General Assembly announced on June 15, 2007 that it adopted a resolution which declared that October 2 will be celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence as he was a non-violent freedom fighter, they said and appealed to the people of Manipur to shun violence and follow the path of peace and non-violence as advocated by Mahatma Gandhi and observe the day by cleaning the surroundings.
