Imphal East DEO honours centenarian, elderly electors

As part of the observance of International Day of Older Persons, District Election Officer (DEO), Imphal East felicitated octogenarian, centenarian and elderly electors who are above 80 years of age in a function held at the Panchayat Bhavan, DC Office Complex, Imphal East on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, DC/DEO Imphal East Khumanthem Diana underscored the role of elderly electors in a democracy and their judgement in electing representatives with their knowledge and experience.
She encouraged elderly people to have strong will and think age as just a number.
She also urged BLOs to deliver the message of ECI to the elderly electors in their respective jurisdiction.
She further said that Maintenance and Welfare of Senior Citizen Act, 2007 has provisions for the safety and care of elderly people.
They can take back properties transferred to their children through gift deed under the Act if they are not receiving proper care and love from their children, she said, while calling upon the younger generation to take good care of their parents and grandparents.
Diana also said that the Act contains provisions for ensuring elders to stay safe in old age homes, health facilities among others.
Maintaining that her office has data for all the elderly people, the DEO assured of checking if any deserving elderly person is left out from welfare schemes of the government.
She also called for bringing inter-gender equity in the society.
Additional DEO, Imphal East and ADM-I Shamim Ahmad Shah, joint CEO Md S Daulat Khan and ADM-II Imphal East Ng Jogendra Khumancha also attended the event as members of the dais.
Altogether 43 elderly electors including two centenarians and 41 above the age of 80 years from 10 different assembly constituencies of the district were honoured on the occasion in recognition of their contribution to the election process of democracy.
The Pioneer Health Club Manipur in collaboration with All Manipur Women's Association (AMWA), Purana Rajbari also observed International Day of Older Persons at Raja Dumbra Singh Women Home on Saturday.
Pioneer Health Club president Th Manihar Singh, exvice president Ng Gokulchandra, AMWA president S Debanti Devi and G Priy-oshakhi Devi attended the event as members of the dais.
As part of the observance, Pioneer Health Club donated blankest, fowels, rice, mustard oil, dal, sugar and edible items to the Home.
A sum of Rs 300 each was also presented to the inmates as a token of love.
