State handloom expo concludes

The week-long state handloom expo organised by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans' CS Ltd (AWAS) under Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles concluded on Saturday at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi.
The valedictory function was attended by Padmashree awardee (handloom) L Subadani; AWAS president A Ronika; Handloom and Textiles joint director E Jeeten; Weavers' Service Centre deputy director HK Baro; District Handloom and Textiles Imphal East project manager Th Ibemcha; National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd, Imphal officer in-charge (Marketing) Y Shantikumar; and All India Handloom FMCS Ltd, New Delhi former BoD Md Wahidur Rahman as presidium members.
Speaking at the function, E Jeeten urged the artisans not to showcase products which are similar in every stall.
While pointing out Manipur is inhabited by 34/35 different communities, he said it would be meaningful to call Manipur a mini-In-dia if handloom products of not less than 20 communities were showcased in future editions of the expo.
Expressing delight over witnessing Kabui stall in the expo, E Jeeten also expressed confidence that the expo will help in showcasing talents of the community.
Certificates were also handed over to the artisans who took part in the expo.
