Ukhrul, February 06 2014:
The All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (Tombing) today distributed relief materials to the victims of Litan fire which killed an 8-year-old girl and destroyed properties worth crores of rupees.
ATSUM volunteers handed 20.5 bags of rice (50 kgs of rice per bag), one bag of salt, one bag of dal, and medicines to the victims.
All the relief materials were sponsored by the Tribal Affairs & Hills.
An 8-year-old girl was charred to death in her sleep and 17 were hutted houses in the major inferno that broke out at Litan in Manipur's Ukhrul district in the night of February 4 .
Talking to reporters on the sidelines, ATSUM president, Muan Tombing said the tragic Litan fire could not be controlled and saved due to lack of fire service station in Litan area.
"All the victims injured in the fire have not been provided proper medical care till now because the lone PHC at Litan is now running without doctors and nurses," Tombing regretted.
He warned that the concerned authority would be urged to take appropriate action against these doctors and nurses who have been absent for months.
Tombing further demand Manipur Government to take steps towards establishing fire sub-stations in all the subdivisions and blocks in hill districts at the earliest.
