Railway workers attacked at Marangching

Tamenglong, February 06 2014:
Suspected armed cadres of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) today opened fire at the workers of North Eastern Front Railway as well as at 6 IRB post at Marangching near Tupul in Tamenglong District.
According to the police source, firing from a distant range, ZUF cadres tried to attack the workers engaged in construction of the railway tunnel No.27 which is being constructed under the supervision of the Hyderbad based Max Pt.
Ltd.
at Marangching village at around 1 am today.
However, personnel of 6 IRB retaliated the firing, thus, resulting in a brief gun-battle.
There was no report of any casualty on either side, police said.
When contacted, Secretary of the Information and Publicity Wing of ZUF, however, denied involvement of its cadres in the incident.
"It may be by some other UGs.
We (ZUF) support the development work since inception.
We welcome the development work in the Zeliangrong area.
We are also for exempting any development works from the purview of bandh and general strike,", the Information Secretary of ZUF added.
It may be recalled here that suspected militants fired two lethod bombs and attacked a construction site of Silchar-Imphal (Jiribam-Tupul) Railway Project on January 28 as well.
