Imphal, February 06 2014:
Defying all terms and conditions for contract employees of the State Government, a contract lecturer of Nambol Higher Secondary School has been found working as the headmistress of a private school.
This may not be an isolated case and there might be many more similar cases that needs urgent attention of the concerned authorities.
Notably, the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) has also granted recognition to that private school without making any proper verification.
According to a reliable source, one Irom Thaja, who was selected as a contract lecturer in 2012, has been found working as the headmistress of the Blossom Kindergarten and Blossom School located at Changangei.
Moreover, the contract lecturer in question, who was selected for Ibotonsana Girls' Higher Secondary School, was found to have been transferred to Nambol Higher Secondary School against the existing rules for contract lecturers.
The terms and conditions signed by a contract lecturer at the time of joining the Government school have been totally violated in this case.
The rules clearly mention that the lecturers cannot work in other institutions or firms while they are in the contract.
They should seek prior approval from the Government if they wish to take up another job.
However, no such official procedure was followed in Thaja's case.
It is also questionable as to how the BSEM has granted recognition to Blossom School which is actually run by a Government contract lecturer.
Many people have raised doubts over possible involvement of officials of Education Department in the transfer and posting of contract lecturers in total defiance of rules and regulations of the Government.
