Poor students of the hill districts who cannot afford school admission fees, monthly fees, text books and uniforms were given Charmy's Education Loan.
The education loan sponsored by the US based KIVA was distributed by the Weaker Section Development Society (WSDS) to 106 students through their school authorities today.
The students were given the education loan to pay either admission fees, tuition fees or to purchase school uniforms and text books and they should repay the loan amount on monthly basis with minimal interest.
The schools whose students were given education loan today were VM Nazareth English School Gangpijang, LL Henjou English High School Thangkanphai, Diamond Sower Academy and Good Samartian Public School, Saikul.
According to WSDS chief operation officer S Haokip, the pilot project of providing education loan to poor students is being taken up for the first time in the entire North East region.
He exuded that poor students who could not afford admission fees, tuition fees and text books can now focus on their studies because they can rely on Charmy Education Loan for these bare necessities.
The project is aimed at covering Mizoram and Nagaland too by 2019 .
VM Nazareth English High School Principal Yumnam Hemanta conveyed gratitide to WSDS for paying admission fees, tuition fees and purchasing text books for 27 students of the school.
WSDS human resource manager Gemson Shimray Awungshi and chief executive officer Lakhumang Kipgen were also present at the loan distribution function.
