Fitting tributes paid to Binodini on birth anniversary

The 92nd birth anniversary of Maharajkumari Binodini was observed today at Chandrakirti Auditorium, Palace Compound under the aegis of the Maharajkumari Binodini Devi Foundation and Department of Art and Culture.
Chief Minister O Ibobi who graced the function as chief guest released a book titled Isei Binodinigi which was a collection of the unpublished works of MK Binodini.
Speaking at the occasion, O Ibobi remarked that MK Binodini was a writer who was well known not only in Manipur but also beyond.
The popularity she earned as a writer was the fruit of her dedication.

The Chief Minister also lauded Aribam Syam and Chongtham Kamala for their efforts to publish Binodini's unpublished works.
Her books and other works would be treasure trove for future generations, Ibobi added.
Well known writer and Padma Sree Awardee Urvashi Butalia then gave a memorial lecture in honour of MK Binodini.
The 92nd birth anniversary of late Maharajkumari Binodini was observed today at Manipur Hindi Parishad too under the aegis of Leimarol Khorjeikhol (Leikok) .
Offering of floral tributes to the photograph of MK Binodini and lectures on the works and feats of the late writer were the main features of the function.
Leikol Editor Kshetrimayum Subadani, film director Makhonmani Mongshaba and B Tarunkumari were the speakers.
Talking about MK Binodini's contribution in Manipuri cinema, Makhonmani Mongsahaba said that Olangthagi Wangmadasu, Imagi Ningthem, Mayophigee Macha, Ishanou, Nangna Kappa Pakchade were some of the Manipuri films whose scripts were penned by MK Binodini.
These films not only won many national awards but also received widespread criticial appreciation.
Apart from feature films, MK Binodini also wrote scripts for documentary as well as short films.
Being a refined artist, Binodini took charge of designing costumes for Ishanou and Mayophigee Macha.
Kshetrimayum Subadani said that Binodini was born to Churachand Maharaj and queen Ngangbi on February 6, 1922 .
Although she got married at the age of 28, she was already living with her husband since she was 19 years old.
She was founder president of Leimarol Khorjeikol and she died as the president of Leikol.
She was a well known exponent of Manipuri art and culture, Subadani said.
