Imphal, September 12 2013:
A mentally unsound woman claiming to be a resident of Singjamei Wangma Bheigyabati Leikai remains at the Palace compound office of All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj after she was brought there by women activists of Palace Compound late last night.
According to some of the Palace Compound women activists, the woman in question used to hang around the area for the last many weeks and on being questioned informed them about her residential address and that she was the daughter of (late) Thangjam Mani and Maipakpi of Bheigyabati Leikai.
Speculating her age to be about 35-40 years and conveying the woman identified herself as Thangjam Sumobala, the women activists said she was convinced to stay put at the Nupi Samaj office at around 10 pm yesterday.
While concerns for her safety led to the women activists deciding to hand over Sumobala to the Samaj office it is said that the mentally unsound woman was also taken for medical examination and is described as 'well' even though her limbs are slightly swollen.
In the meantime, Nupi Samaj secretary (organisation) P Sobita confirming custody of Sumobala urged family members to retain her custody.
