Imphal, September 12 2013:
The State Government is likely to recommend the Registrar General of India to adopt the estimated population worked out by it (RGI) for Mao-Maram, Paomata and Purul sub-divisions which was reflected in the last census report on account of alleged abnormal growth rate.
Population figure of the three sub-divisions were not reflected in the census reports of 2001 and 2011 citing abnormal growth rate.
In the face of sustained pressure from civil organisations, the State Government in consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs arranged a sample survey and re-verification of the head count together with RGI officials.
The re-verification process is now under progress.
In case the re-verification process cannot establish the exact population figure of the three sub-divisions, the State Government is likely recommend RGI to adopt the figure it estimated as the official population figure of the three sub-divisions of Senapati district, informed a well-placed source.
RGI's estimated population figure is 85,584 for Mao-Maram, 33,506 for Paomata and 38,269 for Purul.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam today left Imphal for New Delhi for a meeting with Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in connection with the unfinished census operation in the three divisions and the controversial border fencing work.
Notably, census schedules for the three sub-divisions were not signed by the then Deputy Commissioner of Senapati district citing abnormal growth rate and the same documents are currently with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
