Teacher misses award

A Government High School teacher missed the National Award (to teachers) distribution ceremony held at New Delhi on September 5 (Teachers' Day) due to non-receipt of information in time.
Koijam Tolendro, a trained Science Graduate teacher at Praja High School, Lamsang was among the 374 teachers selected by the Department of Education and Literacy, Union Human Resource Development Ministry from across the country for the National Award.
However, he could not receive this information in time and he missed the award distribution function which was attended by the President of India, among others.
Speaking to media persons at Praja High School today, Koijam Tolendro said it was not clear whether it was because HRD Ministry sent information late or was it because of Education Department's failure to convey the message in time.

Headmaster of Thambalkhong Junior High School, Ch Nishikanta informed Tolendro that they have been selected for the National Award and asked him if he had made necessary preparations for a trip to Delhi.
However, Tolendro did not make any preparations for he did not receive any information or invitation.
At that time, he was not aware that he was one of the many teachers selected from across the country for the prestigious award.
After his return from Delhi, Nishikanta informed him that he seat remained vacant at the ceremony.
Further, one guardian of one his students informed Tolendro that his name was found in the HRD Ministry's website .
While Nishikanta was conferred the National Award to Teachers 2012 for primary level, Tolendro was selected for the same award for secondary level.
Tolendro was earlier conferred the State Teacher Award in 2005 .
