Ukhrul, January 02 2013 :
While Ukhrul may be still reeling from the shock from the killing of two hunters hailing from Kongkan village by cadres of UNLF on December 28 and the subsequent violence that erupted on Sunday in the district headquarters, it, however, did not completely dampen the New Year's spirits as Ukhrulites ringed in the New Year 2013 bidding adieu to the old one here.
At the stroke of midnight, eye-catching fireworks lit up the town's skyline as people displayed various fireworks at their respective localities.
Local churches like Union Baptist Church (UBC), Viewland Baptist Church (VBC), Town Church etc held midnight services to welcome the New Year with prayers and festivities.
Later in the day, tens of hundreds of people turned up at different social gatherings organised by respective churches to celebrate the occasion.
Most business establishments remained closed and some spots such as Gandhi Chowk/ MG Avenue and other portions of main road wore almost deserted look during the day's celebration.
The one day observance as usual culminated in evening worship services at the Churches along with partaking of Lord's Supper.
