Imphal, January 02, 2013:
Following the suspicious death of a youth, an uproar broke out today at Wangkhei under Porompat police station in Imphal East district.
According to a source, Thangjam Bikash (21) s/o Ranbir of Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai was found dead at JNIMS morgue last afternoon.
It is said that Bikash went out from home together with his friend Moirangthem Rishi (20) son of Kunjakishore of Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai at about 11 am of December 31. As Bikash failed to return for long hours, his father Ranbir dialled the mobile number of son and the call was responded by one security personnel of JNIMS.
On being enquired, Ranbir was told that Bikash was wounded.
But when the family went to JNIMS, Bikash was found dead at the morgue.
Whereas the admission register cited drug overdose, the death certificate said that Bikash was brought dead.
Based on the assertion of some friends of Bikash that he never ever took drugs, the corpse of Bikash was taken to JNIMS and post mortem conducted after all the preparations have been made for cremation.
Even as a definite report was awaited, there was no sign of Bikash using drugs.
In the meantime, a public meeting was held at Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai and a JAC was constituted last evening.
This was followed by a mob attacking Rishi's home located at Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai.
When the mob reached Rishi's house, there was no one in the house.
After locking up Rishi's residential gate, the JAC demanded Rishi to surrender within three days.
