Taking serious note of the agitation launched by the High Court Bar Association, Manipur against the non-fullfillment of the commitment given by the Government of lndia, the Manipur People's Party has drawn the attention of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to the near total paralysis of justice delivery system m Manipur.
Laying down the demand of the High Court Bar Association, MPP said that it consists of two points and listed them as, No Judge from the Common Gauhati High Court be absorbed in the High Court of Manipur, except those elevated from Manipur and the High Court of Manipur should have a minimum of seven Judges.
Stating that there are about 5000 pending cases in the High Court of Manipur, MPP said that this has made the need for the Government of India to look into the matter urgently and work out an amicable solution.
The High Court of Manipur also needs specialised benches to deal with Writ, Civil, Habeas Corpus, Constitutional etc.
A copy of the written intimation addressed to the PM has also been sent to the Union Minister of Law and Justice and the ChiefMinister of Manipur.
