Youth dies, mob ransacks house of friend

Imphal, January 02 2013 :
A 21-year old youth from Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai died of suspected drug overdose on Monday.
Meanwhile, an infuriated mob ransacked the house of a friend who was with the deceased at the time of the incident and burnt down some belongings.
The incident occurred at around noon of December 31 after the deceased Thangjam Bikash (21) son of Th Ranabir of Wangkhei Thangjam Leikai went out with his friend Moirangthem Rishi (21) son of M Kunjeshwar of Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai for a New Year eve feast.
The duo came out of Bikash's house at around 11.30 am and went to another friend's house at Yaiskul Hiruhanjaba Leikai.
Upon reaching there, Bikash went inside the toilet where he was found lying unconscious.
Bikash was administered a dose of salt and was rushed to JNIMS hospital, where he succumbed.
Bikash family was not aware of the incident until they called him up on his mobile phone and was picked by a security of JNIMS hospital in the evening.
Hospital sources said that the youth might die of drug overdose.
However, post mortem report is yet to be received.
In the meantime, a mob from the locality of Bikash ransacked the house of Bikash's friend Rishi and burnt down some belongings yesterday.
However, timely arrival of Fire Service and police managed to control the situation from taking an ugly turn.
