Imphal, August 01 2015 :
The Kuki Inpi has categorically stated that the introduction of the ILP by the British colonial Govt on Aug 27, 1873 to safeguard indigenous people covered by the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Acts, 1873 cannot be removed without the consent of the indigenous people.
Responding to the State Govt's call for suggestions from the public in connection with drafting of a Bill as a result of the ongoing ILPS movement in Manipur, the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has submitted a representation to the CM today conveying its stand on the issue.
"The BERF Acts of 1873 cannot be removed nor changed or amended without the consent of the people for whom the Acts have been introduced," KIM said in the representation signed by its president Thangkhosei Haokip.
Any intention to remove or change the Act will be considered as 'colonisation' of the region, it added.
KIM also attached a memorandum the Kuki Inpi had submitted to the PM of India on Dec 2, 2011, as an evidence of its resolve and stance on the issue.
