20 persons buried alive : Joumoul Village destroyed by landslip

Incessant rains in the past few days triggered landslides in Joumoul Village under Khangbarol block in Chandel District burying at least 20 persons alive and destroying 21 houses.
Official sources said that one villager was believed to be still alive in this tribal hamlet.
The Joumoul Village is 83 km from Tengnoupal headquarters.
There is a motorable road up to Tolenjang village and the distance from Hollenjang village to Joumoul village is 15 km.
Due to heavy downpour in the past five days, 20 houses of Joumoul village were swept away including 21 villagers at around 6.30 am on Saturday.
Out of 21 villagers, one person escaped from the tragedy though 20 villagers including six women and two children had perished.
Now, the 29 Assam Rifles personnel, Aibol Joupi and nearby villagers are carrying on rescue operations which has actually become more or less a recovery attempt.

The deceased were identified as Semkhopao Baite (60), son of Ngamjaon Baite; Khamnen Baite (60), wife of Semkhothong Baite; Semkhothang Baite (60), son of Ngamjaon Baite; Semkhoson Baite (65), son of Khupjang Baite; Khanching Baite (60), wife of Semkhoson Baite; Jamlet Baite (45), son of Lamkhojang Baite; Swamkholet baite (50), son of Khupjang Baite; Jangminlun Baite (20), son of Semkhoson Baite; Mangkholal Baite (40), son of Ngehkang Baite; Hoineihing Baite (30), wife of Paolet Baite; Doujam Baite (3), son of Manglet Baite; Paojamang Baite (1), son of Manglet Baite; Thongmang Guite (40), son of Ngamkhotang Guite; Holmang Guite (40), son of Thangkholun Guite; Thangkhenlal Khongsai (40), son of Sojang khongsai; Mary Guite (35), wife of Holmang Guite; Lunkhomang Baite (25), son of Ngamlet Baite; Jangginlal Baite (25), son of Jamkholun Baite; Tongkhothang Baite (35), son of Hemlet Baite and Nengneichin Khongsai (45), wife of Thangkhenlal Khongsai.
Further, villages like Moltuk, P Chehjang, Tuijang, Hoilenjang, Wajang, M Bongjoy are also reportedly facing earth cracks, within and around villages and there is high possibility of landslide anytime.
Already, three houses of Wajang Village had been swept away.
26 houses of TM Dingpi village were also blown away by the heavy storm and incessant rainfall in the area.
Two landslides between Chalong to Paraolon; one landslide between Moltuk to New Songjang village and landslide near S Lamphei Lamkhai and Sehlon village had taken place while a bridge was destroyed over Tuivang River between Khengjang and Yangoulen Village.
