40 villages affected by flood in Chandel

Incessant rains have severely affected about 40 villages with a total population of about 5000 in Chandel district.
Khupkholen Haokip Executive Member of ADC, Chandel , Manipur in a statement stated on Saturday that Sajik Tampak which is 12 km away from Chakpikarong Sub-Divisional Headquarter has remained cut off as a lifeline bridge over Chakpi river at Chakpikarong bazaar had collapsed.
The bridge is the only lifeline of Khengjoy Block and Khangbarol Block.
One RCC bridge over Tuingan river at Tera village and a Bailley bridge over Kana area had also been collapsed due to the impact of the surging water and turbulent current of Kana river.
Most of the villages like Sullen, Chahkap, Haika (L) ,P,Salem, etc have been flooded due to sudden surge of the water level in Kana river.
Paddy fields in Algejang , Molphei , S Molnom , Khomunom, S Sijang ,Paldal, P Salem , T Phalcham , Longja, etc have been inundated by flooded waters and 50 % cultivable land are being washed away by the river.
All educational institutions of the area have been shut down.
The area has remained cut off from the rest of the State.
The statement urged the authority to provide relief materials through helicopter or other means of transportation and take rehabilitation measures for the affected villages.
It also requested the authority to propose a concrete action plan to construct Chakpikarong bridge, Tera bridge and Gelngal bridge.
The statement further urged the Government dispatch a fact finding team comprising SDO/BDO, Chakpikarong to take stock of the flood affected villagers.
