Moirang, August 23 2026:
Jeetendra Ningomba, convenor of the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD), has said that the organisation would never compromise its demand to defer the census until the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is updated for Manipur.
He made the statement while attending a sit-in protest organised by Inter Village Development Committee (IVDC), Bishnupur at Khoijuman today.
The protesters held placards bearing slogans such as "No NRC, No Census" .
Speaking to the media, Jeetendra said that no Minister or MLA should take any decision or reach any agreement on census-related issues that goes against the interests of the people.
Conducting the census forcefully could jeopardise the future of the indigenous people, he said.
He also said that the prevailing situation in Manipur is not conducive to carry out a census.
Jeetendra further said that the Govt can alter or postpone the census in Manipur through appropriate action.
Claiming that the report of the previous census contained several flaws, he added that the NRC must be compulsorily updated.
Maintaining that the JFD's position on the demand for updating the NRC remains unchanged, Jee-tendra reiterated that no MLA or Minister should reach any agreement against the interests of the people.
