A day after the formation of ADC in Senapati, the annual raising day of Senapati District Council was observed today at the ADC complex.
The brief programme was attended by MLA Dr V Alexander Pao, DC Jacintha Lazarus, ML Markson, Chairman, ADC Senapati, ADC Members, SDOs, DLOs, civil organisations, village leaders and employees of District Council.
Wrestling exhibition, cultural programme of different tribes and introduction of new ADC members marked the raising day programme.
The first Chairman of ADC Senapati, Chaku Lohrii, was also present at the occasion.
While welcoming the new ADC, DC Jacintha Lazarus called upon the new Members to give special emphasis on the education sector by eliminating the culture of employing substitute teachers in schools and rejuvenating the Government schools in the district.
"ADC Members are the voices of the people.
We, as the administrators and elected members, should be ready to listen to the grievances of the people," she said.
To ensure quality education, let us promote proper and regular functioning of teachers and schools, she added.
Speaking at the occasion, NPO president T Moses Kamba also appealed to the ADC Members to create the District Council office as the people's office.
MLA Alexander raised the issue of rampant encroachment over Government's land especially around District Council office by certain individual belonging to a family of a former elected Member.
Warning that such culture must be discouraged by the new ADC Members, he added that the irresponsible act will constrict any upgrading initiative of the State's administrative system.
He also called for collective effort to demand 6th Schedule in order to protect the political rights of the tribals of Manipur.
