Imphal, August 01 2015 :
Even as a team of officials visited flood hit areas of the State yesterday to take stock of the situation, several bodies and individuals have decried that the measures taken up by the officials concerned are inadequate.
Ex-Rajya Sabha MP and ex-MLA, BD Behring questioned the existence of Relief and Disaster Management Dept as nothing is heard from them at this crucial time.
He said that the Govt should send relief materials to the affected people without any bias.
The State should also seek special financial package from the Centre in order to repair the various bridges and compensate the crops destroyed by the flood, Behring said.
The present flood could be termed as the most serious flood in the last 40/50 years.
The flood is giving massive impact in Chandel and Thoubal districts.
At the same time, the All Manipur Anti-Corruption and Social Organisation (AMACSO) strongly decried the alleged meagre relief measures taken up by the Govt while urging all concerned dept officials to expedite providing relief materials to all affected victims.
In a statement, the organisation pointed out that there are many flood hit areas of Bishnupur, Chandel and Thoubal districts where the Ministerial team had not covered during their visit yesterday.
Many affected families in remote areas of the three flood hit districts have been taking shelter at safer places.
The organisation conveys their wish to escalate taking up relief measures in a well coordinated manner including rescue operation to salvage affected families from worst outcome.
It also strongly suggested the urgent engagement of Disaster Management team in tackling the disaster.
The All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA) has urged the Govt to speed up arranging relief measures to farmers affected by flood and take up adequate measures to compensate farmers who are staring at grim prospects due to the flood.
