19th general conference of Kuki Baptist Convention held

The 19th general conference 2023 of Kuki Baptist Convention, Gambih No 17 was held yesterday at Aishi village, Kamjong district.
Altogether eleven Kuki baptist churches are partaking in the general conference.
Dignitaries present at yesterday's conference include Leishiyo Keishing, MLA, Phungyar AC; Letzamang Haokip, MLA Henglep Constituency; Kimneo Haokip Hangsing, MLA Saikul Constituency and Thangkhohem Haokip, AE DRDA Churachandpur as special invitees.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Leishiyo Keishing stated that 99.9 per cent of tribals in the State are Christians and to be baptized is to walk on the path of righteousness and distance oneself from sins.
People have been gifted with the mental faculty to tell right from wrong and it is well-known that cultivation of marijuana, poppy and smuggling of drugs are social evils, he maintained.
However, people indulge in these activities influenced by money and power.
In Kamjong district, there are only two/three sites of poppy cultivation, the rest have been destroyed by the State, he shared.
In case of any remaining poppy cultivation in Kamjong district, the MLA appealed to the cultivators to destroy the crops themselves.
Further, he called upon the participants of the conference to walk in the path of truth and righteousness while adding that indulging in sins and evil deeds will result in destruction of the people and a regression of the society.
After the conclusion of the function, the MLA inspected a site at Nambisha village for the construction of a power substation.
Following this, he visited Chassad in Kamjong district and interacted with representatives of youth and women societies and discussed various avenues of development for the people.
The representatives put forward many grievances of the people including lack of staff at Kamjong Administration District Headquarters and shortage of doctors.
