Imphal, January 19 2023:
With the Irilbung water supply scheme ceasing supply of potable water to residents of Wangkhei Kongba area for the last one month, the people are facing serious inconvenience.
In this regard, Oriental Leveller Association (OLA) has submitted a written complaint to the district water and sanitation chairperson, Imphal East DC, district water and sanitation mission member secretary and PHED Imphal East member secretary urging authority concerned to do the needful at the earliest.
The association, in the complaint letter, said that despite the PM launching the Jal Jeevan Mission on August 15, 2019 and sanctioning crores of rupees under the mission to provide potable water to people in different parts of the country including Manipur, the mission has technically not reached the state so far.
For 6 months in 2022, Wangkhei Kongba area received tap water once every 10 days.
But the Irilbung Water Supply Scheme/Plant suddenly stopped supplying tap water to people in the area for the last one month without giving any reason which has forced people of the area to purchase water from private water tankers at exorbitant rates.
