MoU signed between MU and MFR

Imphal, January 19 2023:
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Manipur University and Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR), Guwahati in connection with the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Landslide Hazard Mitigation in NE, on Thursday.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at the MU vice chancellor's office.
The MoU has been signed in connection with undertaking slope stability studies along the railway track alignment and adjacent hill slope from Jiribam to Imphal.
Under the MoU, Manipur University will establish a Centre of Excellence in Landslide Hazard Mitigation in NE, which will be funded by the NF Railways, Guwahati.
Speaking on the occasion, NF Railway general manager Anshul Gupta informed that in addition to providing logistic support in road widening projects in the north-eastern states, the NF Railways is leaving no stone unturned to expedite rail connectivity in Manipur.
The centre of excellence will provide much needed help in undertaking slope stability studies along the railway track alignment and hill slope from Jiribam to Imphal.
It will also help in the process of widening railway lines in areas surrounding the Himalayan range.
Manipur University vice chancellor Prof N Lokendra, who was also present on the occasion, informed that the centre of excellence can be run very smoothly as the university has well-equipped Earth Science and Geography departments.
