No indigenes should forget history of Manipur: Khemchand

RD&PR minister Yumnam Khemchand has said that the indigenous communities of the state should never forget the history of Manipur.
He made the remark during the inaugural function of the 18th General Conference cum Sports, Literary and Cultural Meet 2023 of Kham Lungpha Fraternal Organisation at Sorbung village of Kamjong district on Wednesday.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Khemchand pointed out that Manipur is the powerhouse of sports in the country and the government is promoting sports through various initiatives including providing government jobs to accomplished sportspersons.
Apart from winning medals and bring ing glories, sports also help in maintaining physical and mental health as well as promoting good discipline among the people, he said.
At the same time, education is crucial in every held of life since the human civilisation cannot advance and prosper without education.
It is commendable that Kham Lungpha Fraternal Organisation is incorporating literary section in its general conference apart from sports and cultural meet, he said.
Stating that the state has a history of thousands of years including more than 2000 years of written chronicle, the minister pointed out that every indigenous community has their own unique culture, tradition and history and they shduld never forget culture, tradition and collective history of Manipur.
The indigenous communities should leave behind hatred, mistrust, and walk towards a common goal of unity, fraternity and development, he emphasised.
Kshetrigao MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan, who presided over the inaugural function, described Manipur as a vibrant garden of diverse culture, tradition and language, and called for upholding and promoting the indigenous culture and tradition.
It is the duty of the present generation to keep alive the tradition and culture of our forefathers for the future generations.
At the same time, people of all communities should spread the message of love and brotherhood among the younger generation so that the state could move forward as a strong and united Manipur, he maintained.
Former ICHAM general secretary Ngachonmi Ramshang was the chief host of the conference.
Sorbung village headman and other community leaders also attended the inaugural function.
Residents of 18 villages are participating in the today event, which is being organised under the theme 'Elevate Kham-Lungpha' .
