Interaction prog on Relief 6 Disaster held

An interaction programme for local community volunteers on relief and disaster was organised by the state Relief and Disaster Management at Kuranganayani Hall of DC Complex, Imphal West on Thursday.
The interaction programme was organised as part of the National Disaster Management Authority joint secretary Kunal Satyarthi's 3-day visit to the state.
State Disaster Management Authority CO H Balram also attended the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Kunal Satyarthi stressed the need for community volunteers to be aware of how to act during times of disasters.
As part of this, a scheme for providing training to volunteers had been taken up by the central government, with the initiative being taken up first in Imphal West district for Manipur, followed by extension of the programme in other districts of the state, he conveyed.
In his speech, additional chief secretary MH Khan informed that that the training is being conducted for 12 days from January 16, while similar training programmes carried out in Thoubal, Ukhrul and Bishnupur districts previously.
He then informed that a similar scheme on landslide and earthquake will be taken up soon, for which a proposal has been submitted to the World Bank.
He disclosed that this programme will be formally launched by the PM on March 10 and a fund of Rs 37 crore is expected to be sanctioned.
Concerted efforts are being made to improve the disaster management in the state, he added.
