NTEP Senapati distributes nutritional food to TB patients

National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP), District TB Centre under District Health Society, Senapati distributed nutritional food to TB patients during in a function held at the CMO Conference Hall, Senapati on Thursday.
The distribution was organised under Nikshay Mitra as part of Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Speaking on the occasion, district TB officer, Senapati Dr Linette Muanching informed that the programme was taken up as part of the initiative of the central government to eliminate TB by 2025.The distribution of nutritional food has been done to give awareness to TB patients that they required to take such nutritious food during the course of medication.
The step was introduced in September last year across the country but it was launched in the state in November.
The formal launch of the programme for Mao AC was held in December last year by Mao MLA L Dikho.
The foods distributed were donated by Karong MLA J Kumo Sha for TB patients living in his assembly constituency.
DHS director and CMO of Senapati district Dr Pfokreho Pfoze appreciated the MLA for his generosity and care for TB patients.
He spoke on the initiatives taken up by the government to eliminate TB from the country by 2025 and emphasised on the need for coordination among the government, CSOs, village leaders and the general public.
He urged the public to get tested if they have symptoms similar to TB so that they could begin treatment early and prevent from spreading to others.
Testing facility is available in the district hospital, he said and advised TB patients to go for examination to get early treatment and cure from the disease.
Different food items including milk, pulse, mustard oil and eggs were distributed to around 33 registered TB patients under the Karong AC during the event.
