Imphal, January 12 2023:
Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Singpanglup (AIMS) has raised concern over the unstable condition in the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM) due to frequent change of its Chairman.
AIMS in a press release has raised questions on the efficacy of COHSEM with regards to the upcoming Class XI and XII examinations for the session 2022-23 owing to the absence of a regular and permanent Chairman of the Council which is one of the most important educational governing bodies in the State.
The student body shared that Dr Chingangbam Sarat Singh was appointed as the COHSEM Chairman in July 12, 2022 but surprisingly the Joint Secretary Education (S) Hmangte Lerte Kom has recently appointed T Ojit Singh as the new Chairman of COHSEM in deputation when most of the work of the upcoming examinations have been started.
AIMS expressed the appointment of the new Chairman as really unfortunate since T Ojit Singh was in deputation for 17 long years in the Directorate of Education (U) and opined that such an act will lead to a chaotic state amid this crucial period with the ongoing examination processes.
In view of the above, AIMS sought the attention of the Government and Ministers concerned to create a favourable atmosphere for the students who are preparing for upcoming board exams.
The student body also appealed to the Education Minister to take up appropriate measures for a changed and progressive education sector focusing on students' welfare.
AIMS further urged the authorities concerned to resolve the issue of COHSEM at the earliest failing which the incumbent Government will be held responsible for any unwanted outcome.
AIMS also cautioned that it will not remain as a silent spectator if the future of the students are put at stake.
