Imphal Book Fair-2023 from Jan 15

Imphal, January 12 2023:
After interruption for two years due to outbreak of COVD-19 pandemic, the 29th edition of the Imphal Book Fair-2023 will be held from January 15 to 24 at TRAU Ground near Kwakeithel under the joint aegis of State Central Library and Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation.
Addressing media persons in this regard at the central library hall, Nityaipat Chuthek, here, on Thursday, Art and Culture commissioner M Joy informed that the 29th Imphal Book Fair will have altogether 84 stalls.
Thirty-nine stalls will be opened by book firms of the state and 84 by 17 firms from outside the state.
The book stalls will dis-play as well as sell books related to science, literature, technology, biography, novels, etc., written by renowned authors, in addition to subject oriented books on arts, science & technology, he elaborated, adding that the books will be sold at 15 percent discount.
Stating that the fair has been planned for 10 days so as to provide book lovers especially the youth the opportunity to buy books and explore the benefits of the fair, M Joy informed that various events including quiz and painting competitions, symposiums, book releases, meetings with imminent personalities, including artistes will also be organised during the fair.
To a query regarding discontinuation of Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation purchasing books from Manipur, the commissioner said that after there was a change of director general of the Foundation, various queries came regarding the manner books are being kept in local clubs and it was quite unsatisfactory to the new director general.
Therefore, it took some time to clarify over the issue and hence the purchasing of books was halted for a couple of years.
Now, all issues have been solved, the commissioner added.
