Imphal, January 12 2023:
Disappointed with the Government for not providing adequate infrastructure to Dhanamanjuri University, students of GP Women's College protested in front of the Chief Minister's Secretariat at Babupara and demanded the resignation of the Education Minister and Education Commissionertoday.
The students asserted that 5 years after its establishment, the Dhanamanjuri University has not been developed to a full fledged University.
The students started marching from the college campus towards the CM's Secretariat at around 11 am.
They held placards and raised slogans denouncing the Education Minister and the Commissioner.
As the students tried to storm the Secretariat, a large number of police personnel stopped and dispersed them.
The students later tried to proceed towards the office of the Education Minister, however their attempt was also thwarted by the police.
One of the students, GP Women's College Social and Cultural secretary, Rashesori Meihoubam said, even though the Government has established the Dhanamanjuri University, it lacks the manpower and infrastructure required of a full fledged University.
She asserted that the DMU has no regular Registrar, Examination Controller and Finance Officer.
Moreover, there is no UGC approved teacher in the university, she claimed.
As it is not given UGC's 12(B) status, students, JRF, NET and registered PhD scholars are not getting their scholarship and stipends, she said.
Stating PG classes are about to start, she asked, who will take or conduct the classes.
Graduation and Postgraduation stages are very crucial in students' career, she said adding the Government and the Department concerned should not remain ignorant on the issues plaguing the University.
The DMU should be made a full fledged University by providing it with the required and adequate manpower and infrastructure, she said.
Meanwhile, the Dhanamanjuri University Teachers' Association (DMUTA) held a General Body Meeting at the DM College auditorium today and took several resolutions, said a statement of the association's convener.
The meeting demanded UGC 12 (B) status for DMU so as to make it a full fledged University.
It also demanded placement and promotion of teachers of DMU through DMU authority and re-endorsed suspension of postgraduate classes and pre PhD course work.
