Noney, January 12 2023:
Karuangmuan Village Authority celebrated its 22nd Inpui Karing-Ngei at Karuangmuan Part-1 village, Noney district on Thursday.
The event was attended by 107 Infantry Bn (TA)-11 Gurkha Rifles commanding officer Col Anirban Saha and second in-command Lt Col KSS Raju as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Also present as special guests were Lt Col Shem Khumba, Inpui Naga Union speaker Forceson Khumba and other social & political leaders of Noney area.
The literal meaning of "Karing-Ngei" is "festival of the living".
It is the biggest festival of the Inpui Naga tribe and is traditionally celebrated after Tataak, a festival to part ways with the dead at the end of the year.
The festival of the living is celebrated at the beginning of the New Year with much ritualistic fervour.
In its present form, the Christian message of new life has further enriched the hopes traditionally associated with Karing-Ngei.
The aim of the festival is to unite the Inpui people and progress together as one indigenous community.
The festival rejuvenated the old traditional and cultural spirit of the village.
Cultural dances of Inpui tribe, traditional games of Inpui, lighting of sacred fire and Taren Kaloinu presentation of songs by various singers, Karing-Ngei Miss Contest, entertainment programmes and community love-feast were the highlights of the festival.
Karuangmuan Village Authority chairman Gan-gonglung Khumba delivered the vote of thanks.
