Imphal, January 12 2023:
MAHUD Department has asked the State Election Commission (SEC) to furnish a revised schedule for holding elections to 27 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the first week of March.
In a formal letter dated January 11, MAHUD deputy secretary L Geetchandra urged the SEC secretary to furnish the revised schedule for the election stating that the state cabinet, in its meeting held on January 2, approved conduct of elections to the 27 ULBs of the state in the first week of March.
Mention may be made here that the state cabinet recently approved holding elections to ULBs and PRIs in the first weeks of March and April respectively.
It also agreed to finalise the tentative date for ADC elections after the delimitation process is completed.
Earlier, last year, MAHUD department had even conducted draw of lots for seat reservation for Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) .
There were some issues in the seat reservation norms in some wards of the ULB and the matter reached the court.
