CCpur police again destroy poppy plantation

CCpur, January 12 2023:
Churachandpur police today destroyed young poppy plants on about 30 acres of land between Tuilelung and Pungpui villages after the village chief of Saikot brought to their notice about cultivation of illegal plants in the area.
On receipt of the chiefs report, a team of Churachandpur district police led by ASP(Ops), teams of 1st 1RB and SDO/SDM, Saikot proceeded to the area at about 9.30 am today.
The team immediately began destroying the illegal plants on their arrival.
They reportedly completed their mission at about 2 pm, clearing about 30 acres of land.
A source said the estimated yield of the cash rich illegal plant is about 120 Kgs of opium valued to be about Rs 1.5 crore.
The team collected about thirty poppy stems with pods from the spot as exhibits.
They also set ablaze a temporary shed believed to have been used by the poppy cultivators.
The whereabouts and identities of the cultivators could not be established at the time of destruction as they were believed to be in hiding.
A case has been registered at Churachandpur police station for further investigation.
