Imphal, January 12 2023:
Peeved with alleged indifferent attitude of the state government and its related authorities towards the present condition of state-run DM University, students of GP Women's College on Thursday came out in large number and stormed towards the nearby Raj Bhawan and the CM's Bungalow here.
The irate students trooped out from the college around 11 am and marched towards the Raj Bhawan with placards in their hands which read "Appoint regular registrar of DM University", "Appoint examination controller and finance officer", "Resign irresponsible Education minister", "We want a full-fledged university", etc.
The agitated students also shouted slogans at the gate of Raj Bhawan.
They then proceeded towards the chief minister's bungalow at Babupara and raised slogans demanding resignation of the education minister and the education commissioner on moral ground.
However, they were herded out from the high security zone by a team of Manipur police led by the Imphal police station OC and put the situation under control.
Interacting with media persons on the sidelines of the protest, GP Women's College Social and Culture secretary Rasheshwari Meihoubam informed that even after 5 years of establishment of DM University, the state government and the authorities concerned have been neglecting the institute and hence no development can be seen.
Though the interview for appointment of 44 assistant professors for the university was conducted some time back, the results are still pending, she said, while adding that the results of other interviews for required posts in the university are also kept undeclared.
"Moreover, there is no regular registrar, controller of examinations and finance officer of the university which is very unfortunate," she lamented.
Therefore, considering the lackadaisical attitude of the state government and the authorities concerned, the education minister and the commissioner should resign from their respective posts on moral ground, she insisted.
