Imphal, January 12 2023:
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) has strongly condemned the statement of Union home minister Amit Shah, who described the state as the 'Manipur' mentioned in the Mahabharata epic during a public function held at Moirang on January 6 this year, and demanded an apology for his fabricated remark.
In a statement, AMUCO said that the Mahabharata epic was said to have been written by Krishna Dvaipayana based on the narration by Lord Ganesha.
Though known as Ved Vyas for his knowledge of Veda, there is no relation between the Mahabharata written by Ved Vyas and present-day Manipur state and yet the union home minister made the statement as if the state has no civilisation, history, legends and myth of its own.
Relevant individuals or officials from the state should convey the hurt caused to public sentiment by his remark to the union home minister for early clarification on the matter before it becomes a huge public issue, AMUCO advised.
The statement also pointed out that the comment of Amit Shah came at a time when the state government recently constituted a committee to check falsification of history, culture, tradition and geography of Manipur in books.
The union home minister made the remark as part of his well-prepared speech for the public event and as such it should not be taken lightly.
It was unbecoming of a responsible politician to make such fabricated claim.
It is a matter of identity and history of Manipur, and every man and woman of the state should take a united stand against such fabricated or wrongly interpreted historical remark.
AMUCO sees it as an attempt to destroy the identity of Manipur (erstwhile Kangleipak) by launching some projects.
In case, the particular statement of the union home minister was suggested by some individuals from the state, he/she should be flagged as public enemy, AMUCO said.
It further stated that the organisation could have raised the issue as soon as the union home minister made the remark.
However, they waited for some days thinking that he might understand his mistakes and make a formal clarification.
However, AMUCO can no longer remain silent over the matter as Amit Shah has failed to make any clarification.
AMUCO will always stand against any threat to the identity, history, unity and integrity of the state.
It will never compromise on these issues with anybody, the statement affirmed while calling upon the people of the state to rise against such fabrication of history.
