Heroin seized, poppy plants destroyed

Imphal, January 12 2023:
Police arrested two individuals along with 4.080 kg of heroin worth around Rs 8 crore in the international market from Leimakhong area on Wednesday night.
Police source said that the two arrested identified as Thangminlen Kipgen (32) of Kangpokpi district and Ngamboi Haokip (31) of Churachandpur district, were travelling in an Ford Eco Sports car and were intercepted by a joint police team of Kangpokpi police station, Saparmeina PS and Leimakhong PS on Wednesday night.
Upon checking, the drugs were found packed in 100 soap cases.
Along with the seized drugs, car and two mobile handsets, the arrested duo is in the custody of Saparmeina police station where a case has been registered under ND&PS Act.
Meanwhile, a team of Churachandpur district police led by ASP (Ops) and 1st IRB and Saikot SDO/SDM on Thursday destroyed 30 acres of poppy cultivations in Saikot village area, specifically between Tuilelung and Pungpui villages under Churachandpur district.
The total area of the destructed poppy cultivated land is estimated to around 30 acres with an estimated yield value of 120 kg of.
opium worth about Rs 1.5 crore.
A total of 30 poppy stems with pods were collected from the spot as exhibit.
The task was completed at about 2 PM, said a police source.
However, whereabouts and identities of the unknown cultivators could not be established at the time of destruction and they are believed to be in hiding due to their illegal activities.
A case has also been registered at Churachandpur district police under ND & PS Act for further investigation, it added.
