Disqualification sought

Imphal, January 11 2023:
The Janata Dal (United) has filed an application to the State Assembly Speaker seeking disqualification of 5 MLAs on anti-defection ground.
While the JD(U) has not merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the MLAs who were elected on its tickets had joined the saffron party in September last.
The five sitting MLAs who joined the BJP include Khumukcham Joykishan Singh, Ngursanglur Sanate, Md Achab Uddin, Thangjam Arukumar Singh and LM Khaute.
In the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections 2022, Khumukcham Joykishan Singh was elected on JD (U) ticket from 9-Thangmeiband AC.
Similarly, Ngursanglur Sanate was elected from 55-Tipaimukh AC; Md Achab Uddin from 40-Jiribam AC.
Thangjam Arukumar Singh from 15-Wangkhei AC and LM Khaute from 58-Churachandpur AC.
A statement issued today by JD(U), Manipur State Unit secretary general, M Dorendro Singh said the 5 MLAs had joined the BJP.
Accordingly, they should be disqualified as per the 10th Schedule of the Indian Constitution (Anti-defection law) and Manipur Legislative Assembly's disqualification on ground of defection rules, 1986 .
