Imphal, January 11 2023:
Janata Dal (United), Manipur state unit has submitted an application to the speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly for disqualification of the five MLAs, who got elected on the party's ticket in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election held in 2022, but joined another political organisation.
In the application submitted to the speaker on Wednesday, Janata Dal (United) Manipur said that the merger of five MLAs elected on JDU ticket namely Kh Joykisan of Thangmeiband, Ngursanglur Sanate of Tipaimukh, Md Ashabuddin of Jiribam, Thangjam Arun-kumar of Wangkhei and LM Khaute of Churachandpur to BJP as per Manipur Legislative Assembly Bulletin Part II No 17 was illegal.
It said that Janata Dal (United), Manipur never merged with BJP while the five JDU MLAs joined BJP at their individual level and hence their act amounts to defection.
The application then urged the speaker to disqualify the five JDU MLAs in accordance with Paragraph 2 (1) (a) and Paragraph 191 (2) of the 10th Schedule of Indian Constitution and Manipur Legislative Assembly's disqualification on the ground of defection Rules, 1986 .
