Imphal-Jiri tunnel work almost complete: NFR

While informing that construction of Imphal-Jiribam railway tunnels are almost complete, 7 Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) chief engineer (construction) Vikram Gupta said that the they plan to complete the entire construction within March or April as trains cannot reach Imphal from Jiribam without passing through these tunnels.
The 7 NF Railway Construction organised a "breakthrough blast" event to mark the successful completion of excavation work of the Main Tunnel for a length of 7445m from Portal-1 to Face-5, in Manipur on Tuesday at MT-12 Adit-2 near Olympian Park, Sangaithel.
Speaking in this regard, Vikram Gupta informed that the tunnel-12 is 10.275 Km long with parallel safety tun nel of 8.30km and it is the longest tunnel of NF Railway.
Iterating that the project cannot be completed without the completion of this tunnel, the chief engineer said that the tunnel will connect the hills of Manipur with the Imphal valley and is critical for the completion of Tupul-Imphal section.
The challenges are being tackled on daily basis through strict 3D monitoring and proactive application of desired tunnel support systems in accordance with the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM), Vikram said, while stating that they are putting their full effort by working round the clock for early completion of the project.
He lauded the state government and officials of various departments for providing all necessary support in achieving this critical milestone.
