Skilling workshop for specially-abled commences

A two-day skill development workshop for differently abled persons on the topic "Designing an inclusive skills development for persons with multiple disabilities" has been inaugurated at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday.
The inauguration function of the workshop jointly organised by National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Chennai; Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Asha Kiran Manipur, was attended by Saikot MLA Paolienlal Haokip as chief guest and Saksham Bharat state secretary Jiten Khuman as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Paolienlal pointed out that in this age when the world has technically become a global village with advancement in science and technology, discrimination towards the differently abled people should stop and instead respect them for their special abilities to explore their latent talents to the optimum.
Expressing confidence that the workshop will help the differently abled persons hone their skills, the MLA also informed that the government is taking up various schemes for the welfare of the differently abled.
While urging the department concerned to ensure that the benefits reach the differently abled people on time, he assured of providing all necessary help to the differently abled people.
According to Asha Kiran executive director Chaitho Sonboi Aimol, the workshop has been organised primarily to provide vocational training to persons with multiple disabilities.
The workshop also aims to provide guidance in vocational courses to the specially-abled people and to understand the process involved from pre-vocation to vocational skill development programme.
During the technical session, Manipur International University education department professor Dr Yensembam Rajlakshmi; CRC Imphal, department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Chennai, assistant Professor (Speech and Hearing) Ksh Rameshori; and CRC Imphal, department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Chennai, ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment assistant Professor (Special Education) Dr Devaraju, spoke on the topics "Designing an inclusive skills development for PwDs matters", "Government policies, scheme (state and central) acts, right, entitlements" and "inclusion and accessibility" respectively as resource persons.
