Shiv Sena memo to PM, others airs issues in state

Shiv Sena Balasaheb Banchi, Manipur Pradesh president M Tombi said that the party has apprised the Prime Minister, the Union home minister and the Speaker of Parliament about the several issues plaguing Manipur including demand for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in ST list and for uniform implementation of MLR & LR Act 1960 through memorandums submitted to them.
Informing media persons about Shiv Sena team's recent visit to New Delhi at the party's Babupara office, here, on Wednesday, M Tombi said that the party submitted memorandums to the Prime Minister, the Union home minister, the Speaker of Parliament through Union minister state for education Dr RK Ranjan.
Among the many points contained in the memorandum was uniform implementation MLR & LR Act 1960 so that all the indigenous people of the state could settle anywhere including in the hills.
Another point in the memorandum was inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list of the Indian Constitution so that the community could have constitutional safeguard and restore the erstwhile tribal status.
He then appealed to all the MLAs to support the demand for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list.
According to M Tombi, chief minister N Biren has been working hard to make Manipur a drug-free state but there seems to be loophole in the government's effort in this regard as drugs in large quantities transported from Manipur continued to be seized in other states.
In view of this, there is intensive checking of Manipur origin vehicles in neighbouring states and this has become a shame for people of the state, he said, adding that drugs worth Rs 18 crore transported from Manipur was seized in Assam few days back and there has been report of drug seizure every day.
M Tombi further said that Shiv Sena Balasaheb Banchi, Manipur Pradesh will field its own candidates in the upcoming election of local bodies and the party will give priority to women candidates.
