Hojai observes '7 years devastation'

The observance of the "Seven Years Devastation" (Chahi Taret Khuntakpa) was field at Govindapur in Hojai district of Assam under the joint aegis of United Literary Educational Social & Cultural Organisation and Thambal Rising Club & Library, Govindapur on Tuesday.
The observance function which was marked by offering of floral tributes to the photo of Maharaj Gambhir Singh and Herachandra, also witnessed handing over of various awards to different personalities in the presence of Manipuris settling in different parts of Assam.
During the function, the "Athouba Herachandra Dakuningthou Khonga award" was presented to renowned Manipuri singer Sori Senjam; "Manao Ibungo Chingthanglen Pamheiba Narasingh Khonga award" to Phundreimayum Saidur Rahman Choudhuri of Bidyapur, Golaghat district; and "Iningthou Chinglen Nong-drenkhomba Gambhir Singh Khonga award" to Konjengbam Kunjamani of Kalakhun.
Speaking as chief guest of the event, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Hojai district committee president T Manihar informed that the observance function has been organised to remember the problems and hardships, the chaos and anarchy prevalent in the then Kingdom of Manipur during the Seven Years Devastation and the roles played by Maharaj Gambhir Singh and Narasingh in driving away the Burmese invaders from Manipur.
