Poppy plants destroyed

Altogether 173 acres of poppy plantations have been destroyed at several hill areas in the last few days.
While 140 acres were destroyed between February 28 and March 1, 33 acres were destroyed today.
A combined team of Chandel district police, 8th MR, 15 AR and Forest Department destroyed as many as 140 acres of illicit poppy plantations between February 28 and March 1 at Khongtal hill range.
The combined personnel also burnt down 27 huts used in the poppy cultivation.
Another 12 acres of poppy plantations were destroyed at the hill range between Vailpabung and Molkon today.
The poppy plantations were detected some 23 kilometres from Saikul police station, said sources.
About 155 personnel strength combined teams of Kangpokpi district police, MPTC, NAB, NCB, 6-IRB, 5-IRB and Forest Department carried out the poppy destruction drive.
Additional SP (L&O) Rocky Tholu, Saikul PS OC Inspector B Lunthang Vaiphei led the drive.
At Tamenglong, in the presence of under Tousem SDO, the district police along with personnel of Forest Department, 39 AR, NAB, 87 CRPF, 7IRB and 5th MR destroyed 21 acres of poppy plantations at Kaimai Kuki village.
