Imphal, March 02 2023:
Many civil society organizations of the State have called for the arrest and stringent punishment of every person involved in the murder of Akoijam Nonganba alias Aging while cautioning that intense protests will be launched otherwise.
This statement was made by Lourembam Nganbi, president, All Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) during a press conference held this afternoon at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul which was attended by representatives of numerous CSOs of the State.
Condemning the brutal killing of Aging, son of former Minister Ak Langam, the AMKIL president also demanded NSCN (IM) to produce its cadres allegedly involved in the murder of Nonganba and to punish them appropriately.
She then recalled the heartbreaking incident of 2009 wherein SDO Dr Thingam Kishan, Mandal Yumnam Token and driver Aribam Rajen were mercilessly killed by NSCN (IM) cadres as well as many incidents of violence being meted out to drivers plying through the National Highways.
In view of such earlier cases of violence and the fresh murder case of Nonganba involving NSCN (IM) Deputy Kilonser Moses Gonmei and other cadres, L Nganbi maintained that people no longer have the strength to endure such injustice.
Saying that the police's inability to apprehend every person involved in the murder of Nonganba reveals a weakness on the part of the State Government, she called for the prompt arrest of the culprits and filing of charge sheets to ensure that they receive stringent punishment.
The AMKIL president also appealed to all communities residing in the State to extend their support in the effort to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Lastly, she cautioned that a wide scale agitation might erupt if the NSCN (IM) does not produce the cadres allegedly responsible for the death of Akoijam Nonganba.
Representatives of women CSOs namely, Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL), Poirei Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (PIMPAL), Kanglamei and WASDEV as well as JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Akoijam Nonganba alias Aging were present at today's press conference.
It may be noted that two individuals arrested in connection with the killing of Ak Nonganba, namely, Moses Gonmei and Thokchom Sonia from Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai, have been remanded to judicial custody.
