Anti-poppy drives continue, one held with drugs

As part of the state government's 'War on Drugs' campaign, security forces continued to destroy poppy plantations in various places on Thursday.
According to a statement released by Manipur Police Department PRO, a com bined team of Kangpokpi district police, MPTC, NAB, NCB, 6 IRB, 5 IRB and Forest department, totalling up to 155 personnel scythed 12 acres of poppy plantation found growing along Valpabung and Molkon hill range under Kangpokpi PS on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a combined team of Chandel district police, 8 MR, Forest Department and 15 AR destroyed around 140 acres of poppy plantations from February 28 till March 1 along Khongtal Hill Range.
The team also set on fire 27 huts suspected to be used by the poppy growers.
Another combined team of Tamenglong district police, forest department, AR, NAB, CRPF, IRB and MR scythed 21 acres of poppy plantation in Kaimai Kuki village area under Tousem sub division.
Meanwhile, a combined team of Bishnupur district police commando and Phougakchao Ikhai police station arrested a man with suspected brown sugar during frisking and checking operation in Torbung Bangla area on Thursday.
The arrested man has been identified as Kailaimuon (36) s/o Thangtinpau Gangte of Khousabung village, Churachandpur district.
According to a police report, the combined team was conducting frisking and checking in Torbung Bangla area, when it arrested the drug peddler, later identified as Kailaimuon from Torbung Awang Leikai community hall around 6pm.The team seized 29 soap cases containing suspect ed brown sugar, weighing 1.195 kg in total (including weight of the soap cases) from his possession by observing proper formalities in the presence of executive magistrate.
Both the arrested man and the seized items have been handed over to Phougakchao Ikhai PS for further necessary legal action.
