Imphal, January 28 2014:
The Government of Manipur is mulling to appoint former Planning Commission member Sudha Pillai as a consultant for enacting a land use policy for both hill and plain areas of Manipur.
The State Cabinet may adopt a decision tomorrow to appoint Sudha Pillai, wife of former Union Home Secretary GK Pillai as a consultant for enacting a new land use policy of Manipur.
Notably, the Government of Mizoram has already enacted a new land use policy and it has yielded many positive results towards protection of environment and in dissuading jhum cultivators to give up their traditional cultivation method.
Manipur too, once the new land use policy is enacted, would seek monetary assistance from the Government of India.
The Cabinet meeting scheduled tomorrow afternoon would also study whether alternative plots can be allotted to some people whose plots were affected in the expansion of Imphal airport.
The Cabinet meeting which would be presided by the Chief Minister would also discuss about opening four new outposts at Chingkham and Sawombung under Lilong police station, Waithou under Thoubal police station and Sora under Kakching police station as well as recruitment of 270 lady police personnel.
Another agenda of the meeting would be 7th sitting of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
